Cani bruciati vivi in Ucraina

Per l’impegno e l’amore verso gli animali, elements01, ricerca sempre delle notizie che riguardano i maltrattamenti e gli abusi su di loro, per condividere queste atroci notizie e dare voce a chi non è ha.

E ci è doveroso lanciare un appello per fermare queste assurde, orribili crudeltà.

In Ucraina a Lysychansk per preparasi agli europei di calcio del 2012, le autorità locali stanno utilizzando un forno crematorio mobile per sterminare gli animali randagi.
Il governo locale ha acquistato un forno crematorio mobile per l’eliminazione di animali randagi. Le squadre di accalappiacani sono armati con una pistola per sparare ai randagi altri vengono avvelenati e lasciati morire per strada.

Il forno crematorio mobile è in circolazione anche ad altre città e distretti della regione. Gli animali catturati vengono gettati vivi nel forno a 900°C.

La concetrazione di animali randagi non è così critica, e potrebbe essere risolta in modo del tutto rispettoso verso queste creature vittime del business, per cui sono state condannate, ed ormai gia un anno che questa attività autorizzata dalla regione locale che và avanti.

When we think of an island, we imagine that this can be a haven away from any problem. Unfortunately the world is populated by men and interests are always the same.
During our trip to Fuerteventura, we were struck by a small non-profit organization called Clean Ocean Project, which is responsible for defending and protecting the interests of the Island landscape. They are based in this Island and their Goal is to protect the oceans, waves and beaches. Their Philosophy Is that everybody is part of the solution.

After many years of activism, the people of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, has had to struggle with a huge new problem: the intention from the part of big oil companies, to build several oil rigs off the coasts of these islands.
Clean Ocean Project is responding with a series of peaceful and legal activities of interest to this absurd proposal.

Oil rigs in Canary Islands: not only a rumor

While politicians and people from the ministry debate to decide who is the one in charge of making the decision of whether or not to allow oil prospecting in the nearby of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, CleanOceanProject would like to inform about the seriousness of the case. As NGO CleanOceanProject has been for 10 years cleaning the beaches of Fuerteventura, island where it’s located. During these years it has already been found great amounts of oil from dumps into the ocean, therefore it would be unthinkable the amount of waste poured into the ocean if the oil prospection is allowed in the Central Atlantic.

The enterprise of Repsol plans to use for the drilling 616.060 hectare of the east coast of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, amount of nearly 2.5 times the size of these two islands. The company seems to ignore the fact that some of that area belongs to the Natural Reserve of Biosphere and that in 2004 the Maritime International Organization declared this part of the ocean as especially sensitive.

From the point of view of the environment it would be a disaster. Due to the land, ocean and climate features of the Canary Islands tones of different sea creatures live there and nearly one third of them are endemic. Different species of cetacean, turtles, fish and thousands of invertebrates live and eat from the ground coral that will be destroyed if the drilling is allowed. Never mind the polluting gases caused by the evaporation of the hydrocarbon.

From the point of view of development it would mean a step backwards. With time man has discovered how to substitute finite and dangerous forms of energy with alternative energies which are cleaner and endless. In fact in these two islands there’s plenty of wind and sun and they are a good source of tidal power. A lot of windmills are constructed in different areas of the islands and big part of the population uses solar panels to generate electricity and warm up water. Plus another thing to keep in mind is that the constant burning of toxic gases will increase global warming.

From the economic point of view it would be insane. The main benefit from the islands is tourism. It’s because of the warm climate, the crystal clear beaches, the water sports and the beautiful horizon that thousands of people come to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote each year. Nobody will want to take a swim in black waters or make out an oil rig in the distance.

No matter from which point of view to look at it the project of prospecting oil in the Central Atlantic makes no sense. Some people think that if it’s not Spain who does it will be Morocco, but the issue is not who does it but the magnitude of the disaster if oil rigs are installed in this part of the ocean.
The habitants of these two islands are totally opposed to this outrageous project but the entities responsible for it don’t listen.

Beach clean up with Fuerte wave classic. And lots of oil!

As every year we did a beach cleaning in the course of the FUERTE WAVE CLASSIC 2012. Due to the latest alarming developments concerning the planning oil rigs in front of the coast of Fuerteventura und Lanzarote, we focused this time on alluvial oil. We went to Majanicho on Fuerteventura and collected 20 buckets of dry and fresh oil.
As you can imagine we are actually pretty much focused on the latest development, so we are very happy that the President of Fuerteventura Mario Cabrera was present on the beach cleaning. He explained to us which next steps has to be taken to stop the oil drilling in front of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. We will keep you informed. And to all of you who did not sign yet, do it now! Clean Ocean Project information points

Wandering the island of Fuerteventura, we could visit the various information points of the ONG Clean Ocean Project. In these spots you can get detailed information about projects and buy some gadgets that help the association to pay the cost.
One of these spots, located in the area of Lajares, offers their merchandise within a truly environmentally sustainable. The whole point of interest is built with recycled materials and the atmosphere we breathe is a place without profit.

Portachiavi con animali vivi

Sarei stata in grado di potermi immaginare di tutto, ma di certo non che l’uomo arrivasse a creare dei portachiavi viventi…viventi???
Eh si…perché l’ultima orribile novità dalla Cina sono i Portachiavi realizzati con animali vivi.

Sono dei sacchetti sigillati con all’interno una piccola tartarughina o dei piccoli pesci.
L’altro fatto sconcertante è che non vi è nulla di illegale.

Si possono trovare nei baracchini abulanti, vicino alle metropolitane o nei marciapiedi delle strade cittadine.
Secondo la legge cinese è vietata la vendita di animali selvatici, ma non quella di tartarughe e pesci, proprio gli animali che vengono usati per realizzare questi portachiavi.

I venditori cinesi sostengono che nell’acqua colorata in cui sono immersi questi poveri esserini siano presenti dei nutrienti, che dovrebbero garantire la sopravvivenza degli animali anche per interi mesi, (interi mesi di crudeltà).
Ma la realtà è ben diversa. Le associazioni che si occupano di far valere i diritti degli animali hanno infatti affermato che si tratta di una vera e propria azione di maltrattamento degli animali.
Al quotidiano cinese Global Times, Qin Xiaona, direttore della NGO Capital Animal Welfare Association, ha detto:

Mettere un essere vivente dentro uno spazio sigillato e così ristretto per ottenere un guadagno è immorale e un vero e proprio abuso ai danni dell’animale

Ma immorale è anche chi acquista questi portachiavi assassini.

Assassini della libertà del rispetto di un essere vivente, dove ora la vita si vende confezionata in comode bustine sigillate
pronte all’uso, per vedere l’agonia di una piccola creatura che muore ricercando l’ultima bolla di aria e di vita
davanti ad occhi privi di ogni coscienza.

Viaggiare a Fuerteventura. Consigli e informazioni sull’isola delle Canarie

Lo scorso 23 Marzo 2012, il team del progetto elements01 si è concesso una vacanza nell’isola di Fuerteventura, nell’arcipelago delle isole Canraie.

La prima volta che vidi quest’isola fu 12 anni fa e, come ora, ne rimasi altamente affascinato e rapito. In questi ultimi anni, spesso ho raccontato della mia prima esperienza a compagni e colleghi riportando loro situazioni e modi di vivere sull’isola particolarmente fuori del comune e affascinanti.

Dodici anni fa rimasi colpito dallo spirito libero e naturalista dei residenti e turisti dell’isola, del comune modo di vivere all’aria aperta lontano dal consumismo e dal caos; oggi, a distanza di tempo, mi sono scontrato con una realtà molto diversa, fatta di una moltitudine quasi spropositata di Italiani, dall’assenza onnipresente di nudisti e dalla maggiore occidentalizzazione dei contesti.

Oggi viaggiando a Fuerteventura per praticare sport quali Surf, Windsurf, Kite, Immersioni e molto altro, si incontrano sulle spiagge adibite a queste attività, moltissimi italiani residenti da anni o anche da pochi mesi sull’isola; ci si ritrova a contemplare il mare, a camminare per le vie di Corralejo o El Cotillo affiancati da nostri connazionali che hanno scelto questo paradiso turistico per la calma e per la vita meno cara che si può vivere.

La presenza massiccia di italiani sull’isola di Fuerteventura, ha contribuito oggi al reperimento di cibi caratteristici e importazioni maggiori di prodotti made in italy. I moltissimi ristoranti presenti sull’isola, oggi offrono Pizza e piatti tipici elaborati con prodotti tipici italiani quali la mozzarella e vari formaggi, un tempo impensabili.

Nel mio primo viaggio 12 anni fa, la Pizza condita con mozzarella era un sogno per l’impossibilità di importare questo alimento; oggi si trova e si può mangiare di tutto come in Italia; ancora una volta il turismo e l’insediamento di massa di noi occidentali, non è soltanto un problema, ma anzi un catalizzatore.

Dove mangiare a Fuerteventura. Ristoranti e Tapas Bar

Il nostro soggiorno nell’isola di Fuerteventura si è svolto nella cittadina di Corralejo, nel Nord dell’isola all’interno della struttura Melrose Place. Qui, avendo a disposizione il nostro appartamento, abbiamo cucinato e provveduto ad ogni esigenza culinaria facendo spesa nei vari supermercati della zona.

Anche soggiornando in una casa, si ha comunque la possibilità di pranzare e cenare a prezzi bassissimi e convenienti praticamente ovunque; evitando le grandi bisteccherie e roba del genere sulla via principlae di Corralejo, ci siamo addentrati nelle vie perpendicolari alla stessa e siamo rimasti entusiasti della varietà di Ristorantini e Tapas bar dove magiare.

Questi sono alcuni posti che vi consigliamo e che speriamo possiate trovare nel vostro prossimo viaggio a Fuerteventura:

ULI, una tavola calda gestita da una famiglia di Veneti. Un posto semplice e davvero rinomato per i residenti dell’isola. Andrea, il titolare, vi presenterà i propri piatti con dedizione e simpatia in un perfetto lessico veneziano. Da trovare e da provare!
I Love Pizza, simpatica pizzeria gestita da una coppia di ragazzi toscani che fa pizza al trancio bassa ma davvero deliziosa. Da provare se avete nostalgia della nostra Pizza.
Casa Marcos, antica casa tipica ristrutturata con una certa cura un pò fuori corrajelo, a circa 15 minuti. Viene definita una Tapas bar, ma a noi è sembrato un vero ristorante pulito, tipico e davvero fenomenale. Trovatelo e provatelo.
La Marquesina, situata al porto di Corralejo. Abbiamo provato una paella di pesce freschissimo, preceduta da un piatto di calamari e siamo rimasti a bocca aperta. Trovatelo e provatelo.
Koffee Spot, situato nel paesino di El Cotillo, troverete questo Tapas bar e non solo gestito da questi ragazzi di Roma. Loro sono davvero simpatici e alla mano e la loro cucina, preparata da Dario è sublime e variegata. Personalmente abbiamo pranzato da loro diverse volte e abbiamo gustato una varietà di piatti di pasta eccellenti e variegati. Ottimi i dolci per la colazione e il loro caffè e degno di essere italiano. Trovatelo e provatelo, merita davvero.

Dove soggiornare a Fuerteventura. Appartamenti e Residence

Ogni volta che mi muovo in giro per il mondo, sono sempre contrario al soggiorno in albergo; mi piace immergermi nel contesto del luogo che mi ospita, dormire magari con i rumori della città e incontrare persone del posto.

Tutto questo è possibile se si dorme in strutture comuni come appartamenti e residence e in Fuerteventura ne esistono diverse. Personalmente ho scelto la struttura Melrose Place, a due passi dalla via principale di Corralejo e situata in una delle zone residenziali più carine e tranquille del posto.

Il Melrose Place è una sorta di villa con piscina contenente dieci appartamenti provvisti di tutto il necessario per sentirsi a casa propria. Ogni mattina un simpatico ragazzo, Marco viene a pulire il giardino, sistemare la piscina e dialogare con i residenti della casa, dispensando magari consigli su dove sarà buono uscire con il surf o magari mangiare la sera. Il proprietario, Claudio è estremamente alla mano e cordiale; una persona che davvero ti invita a tornare. Di seguito alcune foto:

Cosa fare a Fuerteventura. Sport ed escursioni

Il nostro viaggio a Fuerteventura è stato sostanzialmente per due motivi, fare Surf e scattare foto. Ogni giorno, aiutati da un ottimo periodo di onde, abbiamo girato per la costa nord alla ricerca di uno spot dove uscire. Posti come Bristol, La Hennerosa, Punta Gorda, Hierro, Majanicho, Playa de Esquinzo, Suicidios e tanti altri ci hanno offerto onde davvero di qualità, con buona frequenza e periodo davvero elevato.

In questi ultimi anni a Corralejo sono sorti davvero molti Surf Shop e scuole di Surf; mi hanno detto che ne esistono 28…Dunque se non vi andasse di imbarcare la vostra attrezzatura da Surf, potrete tranquillamente affittarla sull’isola. Offerte da 5 euro al giorno sono quasi in ogni negozio; attenzione però: se siete dei Pro, sarà meglio portare la vostra tavola; scarseggiano le misura piccole.

Il secondo scopo del viaggio è come annunciato, il desiderio di portare a casa un bel servizio sull’isola e per questo, abbiamo contattato i ragazzi di Photo Canarias.

Il loro Tour organizzato prevede alcune giornate da concordare insieme che vi porteranno alla scoperta di alcuni scorci e Mirador dell’isola davvero mozzafiato. Abbiamo girato e raggiunto i luoghi a bordo del loro furgone; buona musica e dialoghi creativi hanno accompagnato i nostri spostamenti. Il risultato è stato davvero strabiliante, in grado di farci tornare con scatti di alto livello. Di seguito alcuni scatti:

Photo Canarias Workshop

elements01 incontra Photo Canarias per svelare alcune fasi del loro progetto fotografico.

POTETE FARCI UNA BREVE INTRODUZIONE DEL VOSTRO PROGETTO?: E: Prima di tutto è necessario presentarci: io mi chiamo Emanuele Reguzzoni e il mio socio e amico qui di fianco si chiama Mauro Ladu e siamo due fotografi freelance, nati nella stessa città, Busto Arsizio.
Photo Canarias, è un progetto nato con lo scopo di far scoprire ai fotografi e agli appassionati di fotografia gli scorci più belli, suggestivi e meno conosciuti dell’isola di Fuerteventura.

COME E’ NATA L’IDEA DEI REALIZZARE DEI WORKSHOP FOTOGRAFICI FUORI DAL VOSTRO PAESE D’ORIGINE?: E: Photo Canarias è nata da un’idea sorta per caso l’estate scorsa. Si ritornava a casa dopo uno shooting da qualche parte sull’isola. Il sole stava tramontando, la luce era magnifica e il paesaggio lunare dell’interno di Fuerteventura sembrava ancora più bello. L’autoradio suonava Kevin Devine e nella pausa tra una canzone e la successiva io e Mauro abbiamo iniziato a parlare di workshop di fotografia, di quanto sarebbe stato bello organizzarne alcuni sull’isola, che ben si presta alla fotografia di paesaggio per la sua varietà di colori e luoghi.
Il fatto che sia a Fuerteventura e non in Italia è perché qui si sta bene, il clima è mite, siamo circordati dall’oceano e amiamo questo posto.

IN COSA CONSISTONO I VOSTRI WORKSHOP FOTOGRAFICI E COME GESTITE IL FLUSSO OPERATIVO SULL’ISOLA DI FUERTEVENTURA?: E: I nostri workshop sono strutturati in una maniera un po’ diversa dagli altri viaggi fotografici di cui si legge in giro, infatti sono organizzati circa ogni mese in una finestra di 13 giorni.
All’interno di questo periodo, è possibile unirsi a noi da un minimo di 3 ad un massimo di 6 giorni, e i nostri pacchetti includono trasporti e alloggio.
Ogni giorno accompagneremo i partecipanti dalle loro sistemazioni in Corralejo (nella parte Nord di Fuerteventura) alle location più interessanti e remote di tutta l’isola, con le migliori condizioni di luce (di solito l’alba e il tramonto), dove daremo suggerimenti e consigli con lo scopo di far creare scatti originali e interessanti.
Ogni 2-3 giorni abbiamo previsto una revisione delle immagini scattate e alcune dimostrazioni di post produzione attraverso l’utilizzo di Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop e Adobe Camera Raw.
Il fine ultimo del workshop è quello di fornire ai partecipanti le nozioni più importanti di fotografia del paesaggio e di postproduzione, in modo tale da migliorare le loro capacità compositive e di osservazione del paesaggio stesso. Elementi necessari per preparare un’immagine a fini editoriali e presentarsi quindi alle agenzie fotografiche, nel caso qualcuno voglia intraprendere la professione di fotografo.

SAPPIAMO CHE SIETE DEGLI AMANTI E PRATICANTI DEL SURF. QUESTA PASSIONE E LE ISOLE CANARIE, HANNO INFLUITO NEL VOSTRO LAVORO?: M: Beh forse è più giusto dire che il surf mi ha fatto diventare fotografo. Il surf mi ha infatti fornito lo stimolo a viaggiare e dare un taglio alla vita "cittadina" che facevo. La ricerca di onde e posti nuovi mi hanno fatto poi ritrovare con una macchina fotografica al collo spinto da una irrefrenabile necessità di documentare e registrare il bello, il brutto e soprattutto imprimere e trasmettere emozioni.
Con un pò di immaginazione sono riuscito a farlo diventare il mio lavoro. Può suonare poetico però è andata proprio così. Diciamo che è stato un naturale fluire di eventi.
E: Io e il surf siamo ancora ad una fase di conoscenza reciproca. Sono proprio un novizio, per cui non posso dire che l’uso della tavola abbia condizionato il mio lavoro. Certamente i colori dell’oceano e gli scorci magici di Fuerteventura mi hanno spinto ad interessarmi maggiormente di fotografia di paesaggio (sono sempre stato piu’ portato per il ritratto e il reportage) e a cercare di migliorarmi come fotografo.

INFORMANDOCI IN RETE E DA CONOSCENTI, SAPPIAMO CHE ANCHE LE ISOLE CANARIE STANNO RISENTENDO DELLA CRISI GLOBALE. POTETE DARCI UN VOSTRO PUNTO DI VISTA E RACCONTARCI QUALCOSA DEL MERCATO LOCALE?: M: Le isole Canarie come il resto dei paesi hanno risentito e risentono della crisi economica globale. Complessi turistici vuoti o non terminati sono uno dei vari esempi.
Però, a differenza dell’Europa continentale, qui l’economia si basa quasi esclusivamente sul turismo straniero, soprattutto nord europeo dove per fortuna, c’è uno stato di benessere maggiore rispetto ai paesi del bacino mediterraneo.
Per cui, anche se appartenenti alla Spagna, le Canarie versano in una situazione meno critica grazie a questo flusso di denaro "nordico". Qui la differenza non la fanno le oscillazioni della borsa di New York ma piuttosto Ryan Air che decide di togliere o aggiungere voli.

DA ARTISTI E PROFESSIONISTI FREELANCE, COME GESTITE IL RAPPORTO CON I CLIENTI? ESEGUITE DA SOLI TUTTO IL WORKFLOW PRODUTTIVO E POST-PRODUTTIVO, O COLLABORATE CON QUALCHE AZIENDA DEL POSTO?: M: io ed Emanuele abbiamo un approccio molto simile nella gestione del nostro lavoro. Seguiamo tutto personalmente, dal contatto con il cliente all’esecuzione degli shooting, fino alla post produzione. Ad entrambi piace portare avanti un progetto fotografico partendo dall’idea discussa a tavolino fino al prodotto finale stampato!

POTETE SVELARE, NEL CASO ESISTESSERO, DELLE DIFFERENZE TRA UN INCARICO CON CLIENTI ITALIANI E CLIENTI INTERNAZIONALI?: M: Nell’ambito della foto di surf i clienti internazionali, quali sponsor, organizzazioni, brand etc. etc., hanno più disponibilità economica e soprattutto hanno più predisposizione a spendere per produrre un prodotto editoriale o comunque grafico di buona qualità.

E: Per quanto riguarda gli altri ambiti invece non c’è molta differenza tra clienti italiani e stranieri, giustamente sono tutti esigenti e tutti cercano di tirare sul prezzo.

QUALI SONO I CANALI MEDIATICI E NON ATTRAVERSO I QUALI OTTENETE INCARICHI E ORGANIZZATE I VOSTRI WORKSHOP?: M + E: Principalmente attraverso internet. I social network sono attualmente un canale di promozione dei propri lavori molto efficace e per di più gratuito. Poi il passaparola ha ancora un ruolo fondamentale. Ci piace pensare che se facciamo bene verremo ricompensati.

Noi lavoriamo con le immagini per cui è attraverso di loro che ci giungono nuovi incarichi e nuovi interessati a partecipare ai nostri workshop di fotografia. Sui nostri canali di facebook, twitter, flickr proponiamo di continuo nuovo materiale per mantenere l’attenzione alta!

SPESSO, QUANDO SI PENSA AD UN ITALIANO ALL’ESTERO, SI IMMAGINA CHE POSSA CONDURRE UNA VITA TUTTA ROSE E FIORI. QUALI SONO LE VERE DIFFICOLTA’ DI UN LAVORO E UNA VITA FUORI DAL PROPRIO PAESE D’ORIGINE?: M: Un problema è dato dal fatto che in quanto stranieri, seppur rimanendo in Europa, esiste una difficoltà oggettiva ad inserirsi nel tessuto sociale del nuovo paese. Questo sicuramente vale anche dal punto di vista lavorativo. Tutta la parte burocratica legata alla vita di tutti i giorni non è nella tua lingua.
I meccanismi acquisiti a casa sono totalmente differenti nel nuovo posto in cui si decide di andare a vivere.

AVETE DEI PROGETTI FUTURI DI CUI POTETE PARLARCI IN ANTEPRIMA?: M + E: Beh direi che ci date l’opportunità di rispondere a questa intervista proprio nel momento in cui stiamo lanciando Photo Canarias qui a Fuerteventura. Quindi direi che questo è un progetto in divenire che porterà ad interessanti sviluppi, come ad esempio estendere i workshop alle altre isole dell’arcipelago.

Rifiuti Killer in Alaska

Alaska Department of Fish and Game ha diffuso documenti video ed immagini per mostrare i raccapriccianti effetti sui mammiferi locali, provocati in particolare dalle attrezzature non più utilizzate e gettate in acqua dai pescatori, o più generalmente da altro tipo di rifiuto scaricato in mare.

Gli incidenti in cui gli animali incorrono possono lederli in maniera grave fino ad ucciderli. Lo scioccante rapporto ci parla di foche con gli occhi cavati dagli strumenti per la pesca, di esemplari intrappolati in buste di nylon che ne causano il successivo annegamento, di leoni marini con esche conficcate in bocca o con corde di plastica tanto strette intorno alla zona del collo al punto da arrivare a strangolarli.

I leoni marini che vivono in Alaska o nella British Columbia sono a rischio estinzione. I rifiuti che vengono gettati direttamente dalle navi in mare o che arrivano nell’oceano attraverso i fiumi rendono ancora più instabile la loro situazione. Una ricerca effettuata per conto del Dipartimento alla pesca ha avvistato tra il 2000 e il 2007, 386 animali messi in pericolo per rifiuti di cui non riescono a liberarsi. Ma il loro numero – è stato sottolineato – è certamente molto superiore. Il problema comunque non riguarda solo i leoni marini, ma accomuna molte specie, come gli altri mammiferi marini, gli uccelli e le tartarughe.

Phantom cameras are products of the company Vision Research. They supply a broad range of different models suited for many different applications. The camera’s architecture, functions and features reflect this diversity, so no two cameras may operate the same way.

Phantom makes several cameras targeted for film-making. They are capable of mounting recorders called CineMags which can, once full, then relay their content to a personal computer for viewing and editing. The user is able to manipulate the frame speed up to 1,000 frames per second on the HD Gold Model. This allows the camera operator, in Phantom’s words, to “control the duration, speed and time of a story element.”
The Phantom 65 in particular is designed for enhanced control over the exposure of the film. The designers outfitted the product with a digital format. As a result, the company claims that their customers can achieve an optimal command over that exposure time — down to a microsecond. This is what provides for an unlimited set of textural appearances that can be given to the image.

Dogs Used as Shark Bait on French Island

Stephanie Roche of the Brigitte Bardot Foundation, another animal-welfare group in Paris, confirmed that live animals are used as bait on Réunion. But, she said, it is not a common practice.

The Bardot organization has been fighting the practice for a decade. But this is the first time Réunion politicians have reacted strongly and swiftly to stop it, Roche said.

The French Embassy in Washington, D.C., issued a written statement condemning the use of dogs as shark bait, emphasizing that such acts are illegal and will not be tolerated in the French territory.

The embassy maintains these are very isolated cases and authorities on the island are closely monitoring the situation.

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in Friday Harbor, Washington State, is offering a U.S. $1,000 reward to any Réunion police officer who arrests anyone using live dogs or cats as bait for sharks.

Talia Gangini hails from the beautiful island of Maui where she’s spent a good portion of her life honing her stand-up and surfing skills. Stand Up paddling is one of the fastest growing water sports in the world and Talia has quickly made an impression on the competitive circuit with her fierce athletic ability and endurance.

At the age of 14, Talia became the youngest woman to cross the 32-mile Kaiwi channel during the Molokai to Oahu race with Joss Mitchell. All together Talia has paddled that channel 7 times! In 2011 she completed the race solo placing 3rd overall and breaking the record by 30 minutes!

As much as Talia loves to compete, her true passion is the lifestyle and travel that surrounds surfing and Stand-up. Talia recently went to the Namotu, Fiji for a trip with Stand Up Magazine, a personal trip to the Philippines and plans to head to South Africa in December. Talia also got to experience Baja, Mexico for the first time when she met up with Alana Blanchard for her first Reef shoot.

When she’s not in the water or en route to her next destination, Talia is working on her company with her sister called Pashey Designz. The creative duo design and sew their own bikinis and create one of a kind jewelry using shells and beach glass they collect from home and abroad. In 2009, Talia set another record when she became the youngest designer to have her jewelry, modeled by Bar Rafaeli, on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue!

Amanti dello sport in generale, gente sempre constantemente in movimento e attenta alle nuove tendenze sportive, a tutte le attività promosse da noi come Shop, hanno sempre risposto in maniera positiva e quindi con super affluenza ad ogni evento sportivo e attività correlata.

DA QUALCHE ANNO IL TUO NOME VIENE LEGATO ALLA NASCITA DELLO SKATE PARK DI OSIMO. VISITANDO IL PARK CI SI RENDE SUBITO CONTO DELL’IMPEGNO E DELLE EVENTUALI DIFFICOLTA’ LEGATE ALLA NASCITA DI UNA STRUTTURA DEL GENERE. PUOI PARLARCI DI QUESTO PROGETTO, MAGARI RACCONTANDOCI RETRO SCENA POCO NOTI?: Un sogno che si realizza. Uno degli Skatepark più belli e grandi d’italia. Facevo riunioni con riviste alla mano e siti web allo scopo di far vedere cosa era lo Skate e cosa era uno Skatepark…ahahah. La sua grandezza doveva essere inferiore, ma visto le realizzazioni fatte a Civitanova, Macerata e Portopotenza, Osimo ha deciso che doveva essere il più grande e il più bello, dove poter svolgere manifestazioni importanti…e così è stato!

LA NASCITA DI UNA REALTA’ SKATE COSI’ IMPORTANTE FA PENSARE AD EVENTUALI SVILUPPI VERSO QUESTO AMBITO SPORTIVO. QUALI SONO LE VOSTRE PREVISIONI E PROGETTI FUTURI VERSO QUESTA REALTA’ SPESSO DI NICCHIA E POCO PUBBLICIZZATA?: Il futuro dello Skate non portà più essere compromesso grazie a tutte le strutture fatte in Italia…ora può solo crescere con scuole e istruttori federali legati al CONI. Sicuramente vedo un futuro prosperoso per lo Skate; anche noi come Shop abbiamo un progetto prossimo alla realizzazione di un…ma ve ne parleremo solo a cose fatte…!

SPESSO IN ITALIA E NEL MONDO, I NEGOZI DI QUESTO GENERE DECIDONO DI CONTORNARSI DI ATLETI E PERSONAGGI CHE FACCIANO GIRARE IL NOME E I MATERIALI DELLO STESSO. QUALI SONO LE VOSTRE VEDUTE E AZIONI VERSO GLI ATLETI DEL MONDO SURF/SKATE/SNOWBOARD DELLA SCENA EAST?: Sicuramente gli atleti legati al negozio sono un prolungamento dello Shop in strada, in Montagna e in Acqua e, grazie a loro si continua a parlare di questa realtà al di fuori delle mura del negozio.

I nostri Surfers si spostano da voi, nella costa Ovest dove la frequenza delle onde è maggiore e uniscono diversi Surf Trip alla ricerca di continuità e qualità delle onde. Insomma i nostri Surfers non stanno mai fermi…l’importante è fare Surf!
Oggi il mondo Surf sulla costa East è sicuramente cresciuto grazie anche alla fabricazione di tavole sempre più facili per condizioni di onda piccola, facilitando e non scoraggiando i nuovi Riders.

Shark finning refers to the removal and retention of shark fins and the discard at sea of the carcass. The shark is most often still alive when it is tossed back into the water. Unable to swim, the shark slowly sinks toward the bottom where it is eaten alive by other fish.Shark finning takes place at sea so the fishers have only the fins to transport. Shark meat is considered low value and therefore not worth the cost of transporting the bulky shark bodies to market.

Shark finning has increased over the past decade due to the increasing demand for shark fins (for shark fin soup and traditional cures), improved fishing technology, and improved market economics.

Shark specialists estimate that 100 million sharks are killed for their fins, annually.

One pound of dried shark fin can retail for $300 or more. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry.

Who are the largest offenders of shark fin?

Hong Kong handles at least 50% and perhaps as much as 80% of the world trade in shark fin. The Hong Kong Government Census and Statistics Department maintains detailed records of unprocessed and processed shark fin imports (recorded as weight and value of frozen/salted and dried fin) by country of origin and country of consignment. These records show that in recent years imports of unprocessed shark fins from Europe, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, USA, Yemen, India, Japan, and Mexico have dominated the Hong Kong market.

Hong Kong trade data indicate that imports of fins rose significantly at the end of the 1980s, from 2739 metric tons (mt) in 1980 to over 3000 mt in 1987 and 4000 mt in 1992. Imports are currently continuing to grow at 6% per annum. Before this time, most sharks caught incidentally in long line fisheries (probably the largest source of fins) were an unwanted by-catch. Fishermen tried to minimize incidental hooking rates and sharks were generally released alive (over 80% of sharks taken in pelagic hook and line fisheries around Hawaii were alive when brought on board for finning). The increased demand for shark fins combined with depletion of stocks of traditional target species (e.g. tuna and swordfish) transformed sharks from a largely unwanted by-catch into a valuable target species within ten years.

What can I do as an individual?

There are many things you can do as an individual against the exploitation of sharks:

Refuse to eat in restaurants that serve shark fin soup or any other shark products
Do not shop in any grocery stores that sell shark – All sharks are endangered on a global level.
Tell as many people as you can about the wrongful act of shark finning.
Open your mind and understand these magnificent creatures.

Today I’d like to suggest You some Surfing Movie that I’ve watched on my TV. The time is not important, the color correction too; the only thing that You need to get is the Core.

New Emissions of Light & Sound

New Emissions of Light and Sound is a DVD collaboration between the sometimes-introverted world-renowned DJ Sasha and a bunch of Surfers that managed to snag themselves a nod for both Best Core Film and Best Editing from the 2007 X-Dance Film Festival; Movie of the Year, and a win for Best Cinematography from the 2006 Surfer Poll Awards for their previous film, Secret Machine.

Unless your nuts about surfing, or DJ Sasha, I wouldn’t bother with New Emissions of Light and Sound. The sound track by DJ Sasha is, of course, the highlight of the presentation. But again, with a 35 minute runtime, you’ll spend most of it waiting for something to happen, then the credits roll, and you’ll ask yourself the same thing I did: “What the heck was that?”

Cool. But not quite. I’ve got much better things to do with an hour. On a side note, this is not ‘dance music’ per se, rather, it is DJ Sasha at his best, and I look forward to more exciting things from Sasha and emFire Music.

Seaworthy

Seaworthy is the long awaited second offering from independent operator Nathan Oldfield, the maker of the highly regarded and award winning underground film Lines from a poem.

Nearly three years in the making, Seaworthy documents a variety of individuals & the different way they approach wave riding. The film presents a left of centre look at diversity in surfing, including alaias, olos, toothpicks, singlefins, twins, thrusters, quads, fish, logs, surfmats and bodysurfing. Dark Fall

Dark Fall is all of us. It represents New Jersey surfing, the lives we lead, friendships we make, and the brotherhood that connects us to our coastline. New Jersey’s a small surf spot in comparison to the enormity of the surfing world. This film voices our story to the outside world of surfing.

Take a look into Alex DePhillipos award winning film, Dark Fall, as he follows some of New Jersey’s best surfers throughout the year as they take on some of the best surf not only right in their back yard, but to some of the most remote surf spots on the globe. This DVD takes a look into the life of a cold-water surfer as it displays the most magnificent and naturally beautiful times of year for a New Jersey surfer, the fall. Shot in high definition, including work with the Red One, this epic surf film is a must see.

Shelter

The Moonshine Conspiracy’s third and biggest project, Shelter, carries the spirit of Thicker Than Water and September Sessions, however it has a texture and vision all it’s own.

Surfers featured include the likes of Machado and Dorian but the film also hosts the surfing and thoughts from people such as Joel Tudor, Nat Young, Mick Fanning, Malia Jones, and many more. There is even an unconfirmed sighting of Ben Harper in an early cut of the film.

The all-original score for the project is being headed by Joachim Cooder (from the Grammy winning documentary the “Buena Vista Social Club”) and is turning out to be an eclectic piece of art on it’s own. We can only imagine the various artists he has in store for the ever-changing mood of the film.

As far as surfing goes, there are over thirty hours of footage that according to Brad Gerlach is “the best surfing I’ve ever seen”. It’s been cut down to an hour by directors Taylor Steele and Chris Malloy with a hand from Emmett Malloy and Jack Johnson/
